Hookio Terms of Use

Licence and scope

These Terms of Use are the end-user licence agreement between you and Idion for the Hookio app. By downloading or using Hookio, you accept them.

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Hookio for your own use. If you obtained Hookio from the Apple App Store, this licence is limited to use on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, and is subject to the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, including any permitted family sharing. If you obtained Hookio from Google Play, the equivalent Google Play terms apply.

You may not sell, rent, sublicense, or redistribute Hookio, or copy, modify, decompile, or reverse engineer it except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits. Our Acceptable Use Policy describes further behaviour that is not allowed.

Eligibility

You must be old enough to enter into a binding agreement where you live in order to use Hookio. If you are using it on behalf of someone else, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms for them.

Accounts

You can use Hookio without an account, including checking patterns, running projects, subscribing and restoring a subscription. If you create one, you are responsible for keeping access to it secure, and for what happens under it. Tell us promptly if you believe someone else has gained access.

We may suspend or close an account that is being used in breach of these terms or our Acceptable Use Policy. You can delete your own account at any time from inside the app, as described on our Account Deletion page.

Acceptable use

You agree to use Hookio lawfully and as intended. Our Acceptable Use Policy sets out what is not allowed, and it forms part of these terms.

Feedback

If you send us suggestions about Hookio, we may use them without obligation to you. This does not affect your rights in anything else you create.

How a verdict is produced, and what it is not

Hookio uses AI for one step only: reading the document you brought into rows. The verdict itself is arithmetic. It walks those rows and reports where the count a row reaches does not match the count the pattern states.

A verdict is informational and is about a document, not about the finished object. It tells you whether the numbers reconcile. It cannot tell you whether what you make will look like the designer's photograph, and it does not claim to. Reading can be imperfect, a row the app could not resolve is reported as unread rather than passed as fine, and decisions you take about your yarn and your time remain yours. See our AI Policy.

Subscriptions

Hookio is free to use for one full pattern check and the project that check starts. Those do not expire. Beyond that, Hookio offers an optional paid subscription. Prices, billing periods, and any free trial are shown in the app before you buy, and payment is taken by the Apple App Store or Google Play under their terms.

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. You can cancel at any time in your device's subscription settings, and cancelling stops the next renewal rather than ending the period you have already paid for. If a free trial is offered, any unused part of it ends when you buy a subscription. Refunds are handled by the store you bought from, under its own policy, except where the law where you live gives you a further right of withdrawal.

A subscription pays for checking the next pattern. It never takes back the ones you already have. If your subscription lapses or you cancel it, every pattern you have already checked stays readable, every project stays runnable, and every row position stays exactly where it was, offline included.

If you start to cancel

If you start to cancel, we may show you a single discounted offer once. You can decline it and continue to the store's own cancellation page directly, in one tap, with no second screen and no further argument.

We do not show it more than once to the same subscriber, we do not show it to people who are already on the discounted annual plan, and we do not interrupt or intercept the store's own cancellation flow. We may also ask you, once, why you are leaving. That question is skippable in one tap and your answer never changes the price you are offered.

Intellectual property, and the patterns you bring

Hookio, including its software, design, and content, belongs to Idion and its licensors, and is protected by intellectual property law. These terms grant you a licence to use it, not any ownership of it.

The patterns are a separate matter and the important one. Crochet patterns are copyrighted works belonging to the people who wrote them. Hookio supplies none: every pattern in the app is one you brought from your own device, and you confirm that you have the right to use any document you import. The app shows that line to you at your first import, and it is repeated here because this is where it binds.

What Hookio does with it is narrow on purpose. It stores your pattern privately to your own account or device, reads it to produce your own verdict, and shows its rows back to you while you work. It never publishes it, syndicates it, sells it, exports it as text, includes it in a shared card, or shows it to any other person. Hookio is a private reading aid for a copy you already have, in the same sense as a row counter and a notepad.

If a third party claims that Hookio infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple or Google, are solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling, and discharging that claim.

Availability

We aim to keep Hookio available, but we do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Access may be limited by maintenance, by problems outside our control, or by your own device or connection.

Checking a new pattern needs a connection. Reading a pattern you have already checked and running a project you have already started do not, and are designed to work with no signal at all.

Changes to the app

We may change, add, or remove features as Hookio develops. Where a change materially reduces what a paid subscription provides, we will make a reasonable effort to tell you in advance.

Links to other services

Hookio may link to services we do not operate, such as your device's subscription settings or our own store listing. We are not responsible for their content or their practices, and their own terms and privacy policies apply when you use them.

Third-party terms

You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a United States government embargo, or designated by the United States government as a terrorist-supporting country, and that you are not on any United States government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

You must comply with any applicable third-party terms of agreement when using Hookio. Apple and Google, and their subsidiaries, are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms of Use and, upon your acceptance, will have the right to enforce them against you.

Ending the agreement

You may stop using Hookio at any time and delete your account. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these terms, if we are required to by law, or if we discontinue the app. Terms that by their nature should survive termination do so.

Disclaimers

Hookio is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be limited.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Idion is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses, or for loss of data or profits, arising from your use of Hookio. Our total liability for any claim relating to Hookio is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Resolving a dispute

If something goes wrong, contact us first at [email protected]. Most problems are resolved that way and it is faster for both of us.

If we cannot resolve it informally, the courts identified below have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer in the European Union, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live, and you may also use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform.

Governing law

Hookio is operated by Idion, based in Spain. These terms are governed by the laws of Spain, and the courts of Spain have jurisdiction, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection you have where you live.

Export compliance

You may not use or export Hookio except as permitted by the laws of Spain, the European Union, and the United States, and by the laws of the place where it was obtained.

App store terms

If you downloaded Hookio from the Apple App Store or Google Play, the following also applies. These terms are an agreement between you and Idion only, not with Apple or Google, and Apple and Google are not responsible for Hookio or its content.

Apple and Google have no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Hookio. In the event Hookio fails to conform to any warranty, you may notify Apple or Google, and they may refund the purchase price, if any, but that is their only warranty obligation, and any other claims, losses, or damages are our sole responsibility, not theirs.

Apple and Google are not responsible for addressing any claims relating to Hookio, including product liability claims, claims that Hookio fails to meet applicable legal or regulatory requirements, or claims under consumer protection law. Apple and Google are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and, upon your acceptance, will have the right to enforce them against you.

Maintenance and support for Hookio is our sole responsibility. Apple and Google have no obligation to provide it, and questions should be sent to the support address below.
